This is the same thing my dad does for a living, and he lives in Long Island--didn't you come from that place?. Anyway, he tells me he "sells opportunity"--he organizes conferences for businesses to network with one another--he does some tool-ish conferences, like bring pharmaceutical companies and politicians together---hmmm I wonder what sort of evil exploits are being discussed there? SO anyway I've been trying to get him to do less evil things, such as more activisty, academic sorts of "opportunites". I am going to tell him to look at what you are doing...but don't worry, I am sure he won't go for as rad of an agenda as you so no worries re: competition- his business is iiBIG.com

It's also great that you suggested skipping to the wrap-up & re-connecting later; large social events can often bring lots of distractions or responsibilities such as volunteering or driving folks home, so good idea here!
